I recently traveled to Belo Horizonte, Brazil for NIC’s event on June 21 and 22. I’m excited to announce that my longtime friend and collaborator since 1997, Emilia Queiroga Barros, is opening a new Nucleus of Sciences Integration (NIC) office headquartered in Belo Horizonte. We are thrilled to welcome her to our Ahimsa Peace Institute Board of Directors. NIC is a Brazilian NGO, which I serve as a Board of Advisor.
I first met Emilia September 19-25, 1997, as an invited guest to an event she produced, the International Conference on Consciousness in Brasília. My best friend and business partner, Marilyn Ferguson, author of the best-selling “The Aquarian Conspiracy,” was the keynote speaker. Other notable speakers included Edgar Mitchell, founder of Noetic Sciences and the 6th man to walk on the moon during the Apollo 14 mission, Peter Russell, author of “The Global Brain,” and Elisabet Sahtouris, co-author of “Biology Revision” with Willis Harman.

Our collaboration continued with a multi-city speaking tour featuring the same group in 1998. Emilia played a pivotal role in introducing my work to First Lady Ruth Cardoso and her Comunidade Solidária Project, where I had the opportunity to work in the Executive Palaces for three months in 1998-1999.
One of our most wildest adventures was traveling deep into the amazon to a school funded by UNICEF built by the indigenous to bring technology to help bridge the digital divide in 1998. In 2012, she was also the catalyst who brought Arun Gandhi and me to Brazil for two weeks.

Emilia is deeply committed to preserving Arun Gandhi’s legacy and has been a true soul sister to me throughout the years. We look forward to her continued contributions and are excited about the future collaborations her new office will bring.
