UN Global Online Consultation to Develop a Code of Conduct for Information Integrity on Digital Platforms | Tuesday, 23 January 2024
The United Nations is developing a Code of Conduct for information integrity on digital platforms. It seeks to provide a concerted global response to information threats that is firmly rooted in human rights, including the rights to freedom of expression and opinion and access to information.
The voluntary Code will help guide Member States, digital platforms and other groups in their efforts to make the digital space more inclusive and safer for all. In furtherance of that objective, the United Nations will develop the code, in consultation with stakeholders in the information environment, to present the code in time for the Summit of the Future in September 2024.
To that end, the Department of Global Communications of the United Nations invited stakeholders in the information ecosystem worldwide — civil society organizations, think tanks, academic institutions and business groups, including advertising, media, libraries, digital platforms and technology companies — to participate with a global online consultation on Tuesday, 23 January 2024 from 9 AM to 11 AM (New York time).
This stakeholder consultation will be crucial in shaping the development of a UN code of conduct for information integrity online. GWEI registered and provided a written statement via questionnaire.
