Planting Seeds of Peace

GWEI-API Brings Peace Education Resources to Clark County Schools

During the first half of 2026, Gandhi Worldwide Education Institute d/b/a Ahimsa Peace Institute (GWEI-API) expanded its commitment to peace education through a partnership with the Clark County School District (CCSD), placing Peace Education Book Bundles into five schools across Southern Nevada.

The initiative reflects a simple belief: when educators are equipped with meaningful resources, they can help cultivate classrooms rooted in respect, understanding, compassion, and nonviolence.

Each Peace Education Book Bundle was designed to support teachers in bringing social and emotional learning, character development, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding principles into their classrooms. The bundles included educational resources inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, Arun Gandhi, and the practice of ahimsa.

Through the program, five schools, five classrooms, and five educators received resources that can continue serving students for years to come. While the installations were physically placed in five classrooms, the broader school communities collectively serve approximately 5,000 students, extending the potential impact far beyond the initial recipients.

Supporting Teachers as Peacebuilders

Teachers play an essential role in shaping not only academic success, but also the character and well-being of future generations.

By providing practical educational tools, journals, books, and peace-centered learning resources, GWEI-API seeks to support educators who are helping students develop empathy, emotional awareness, communication skills, and constructive approaches to conflict.

Peace education is not simply about preventing violence. It is about cultivating the qualities that allow individuals and communities to thrive: respect, responsibility, compassion, understanding, appreciation, acceptance, and cooperation.

Seeds of Light and the Nonviolent Tree in the Classroom

Among the resources included in the Peace Education Book Bundles were materials from the Seeds of Light series and the Nonviolent Tree Journal, inspired by the teachings of Arun Gandhi.

The Nonviolent Tree helps students explore the roots of violence and nonviolence in daily life. Through journaling and reflection, students learn to recognize how attitudes, words, and actions affect themselves, others, and their communities. The practice encourages self-awareness, responsibility, and the development of constructive alternatives to harmful behaviors.

Students are invited to examine their own experiences and choices while developing the roots of healthy relationships: awareness, respect, understanding, acceptance, appreciation, and compassion. In doing so, they learn that peace begins not in distant places, but within our daily interactions with family, friends, classmates, and community.

Each bundle also included a custom pencil connected to one of Arun Gandhi’s most memorable childhood lessons. As a young boy, Arun was reprimanded by his grandfather, Mahatma Gandhi, for carelessly wasting a small pencil. Gandhi explained that millions of children in India did not have access to even a tiny pencil, teaching Arun that waste is a form of violence because it disregards the needs and dignity of others.

Today, that simple pencil continues to serve as a reminder that nonviolence begins with awareness, gratitude, and responsible use of the resources entrusted to us.

Together, the Nonviolent Tree Journal and pencil story help transform peace education from an abstract concept into a practical daily practice that students can carry with them throughout their lives.

Constructive Action Through Partnership

The success of this initiative was made possible through the partnership between GWEI-API and the Clark County School District. By working together, educational institutions and community organizations can create opportunities that neither could accomplish alone.

This project demonstrates how constructive action often begins with simple steps: a book placed in a classroom, a teacher introducing a new idea, a student discovering a new perspective, or a conversation that fosters greater understanding.

The installation of these Peace Education Book Bundles represents more than the placement of educational materials. It is an investment in teachers, students, and school communities committed to creating learning environments where kindness, respect, and responsibility can flourish.

These small actions may appear modest, but their impact can ripple outward for years, influencing thousands of young people as they develop the knowledge, skills, and values needed to build healthier relationships and stronger communities.

Looking Ahead

As GWEI-API continues to expand its educational outreach, additional opportunities are being explored to place peace education resources into schools, classrooms, libraries, and community organizations.

Every book shared, every journal completed, every pencil placed into a student’s hand, and every classroom conversation represents another seed planted for the future.

Through partnerships, education, and constructive action, we continue working toward a culture where peace is not merely discussed but practiced in daily life.

The first half of 2026 demonstrated what is possible when schools, educators, and community partners come together in a shared commitment to nurturing the next generation. We look forward to expanding this work and bringing peace education resources to even more students in the years ahead.

Gratitude to Our Donors

This initiative would not have been possible without the generosity of the donors who believe in the power of education to create positive change.

Every Peace Education Book Bundle placed into a classroom represents the collective support of individuals who understand that peace is something that can be taught, practiced, and lived. Through their contributions, teachers received meaningful educational resources, students gained access to the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Arun Gandhi, and thousands of young people were introduced to tools that encourage reflection, responsibility, and constructive action.

As we celebrate the installation of Peace Education Book Bundles in five schools, five classrooms, and five educators reaching approximately 5,000 students, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the donors who made this work possible.

We could not expand our educational outreach without your support. Your generosity is helping plant seeds of peace that will continue to grow in classrooms, schools, families, and communities for years to come.
