Avani Is My Heart, Three Years in Continuation

May 2, 2026

Three Years in Continuation of a Living Legacy

On May 2, 2023, Arun Gandhi left his physical body at Avani.

Three years later, we do not mark this day in loss.
We mark it in continuation.

In his final days, Arun spoke clearly and simply.
“Avani is my heart.”

Those words were not symbolic.
They were a trust.

And in the time since his passing, that trust has guided everything we have done.

Carrying Forward What Matters

Over the past three years, the work has not been about expansion for its own sake.
It has been about alignment.

We have carried forward what Arun lived and taught.

Through our newsletters, his voice continues to be shared in his own words:

• 2023 Ahimsa Peace News

• 2024 Ahimsa Peace News, Part 1

• 2024 Special Brazil Edition

• 2025 Ahimsa Peace News, Part 1

• 2025 Ahimsa Peace News, Part 2

Each edition carries Arun’s words forward, not as memory, but as guidance.

Through our Annual Reports, we have documented steady and transparent growth:

2023 Annual Report

2024 Annual Report

2025 Annual Report

Digital Reach (See links for stats of overall data)

• 2024 –https://www.gandhiforchildren.org/legacy-history/digital-outreach/

• 2025 – https://www.gandhiforchildren.org/digital-outreach/

From a partial founding year in 2023 to sustained growth through 2024, 2025, and now 2026, both reach and support have expanded in meaningful ways.

This is not growth for visibility.
It is continuity for purpose.

Avani at the Center

At the heart of it all remains Avani.

The girls.
The daily rhythms of care.
The quiet, steady work of dignity and healing.

Over these three years, we have supported Avani through focused initiatives:

• Organic Farming Project
• Women’s Economic Empowerment and Health Security
• Avani Shelter Home for Girls

We have stayed connected not only through funding, but through presence.

Through conversations with the girls.
Through shared moments across continents.
Through simple acts, like placing a pencil in their hands, honoring the lesson Arun carried from his grandfather.

These are not programs alone.
They are living expressions of what he meant when he said,
“Avani is my heart.”

Bringing Ahimsa Into the World

At the same time, we have continued to bring nonviolence into education, community, and global dialogue.

The film AHIMSA Gandhi: The Power of the Powerless has been shared across the world:

• UNLV Screening and Panel, October 2023
• Brazil Screenings with Portuguese Subtitles, 2024
• Multiple Global Online Screenings, October 2024
• United Nations Doha Screening, November 2025

Our work continues through education:

UNLV OLLI Courses

Gandhian Studies: Roots of Relationship, Summer 2026 (Instructor Bylund)
• Gandhian Studies: Gandhi’s Journey, Indian, South Africa and Nonviolence, Fall 2026

And through community outreach:

• Clark County School District engagement
Seeds of Light Workbook and Journal
• Daily Acts of Ahimsa:

United Nations ECOSOC History of Engagement:

United Nations ECOSOC Continued Engagement

United Nations WSSD2 Global Participation:

Across each of these efforts, one thread remains constant.

Nonviolence is not taught as theory.
It is practiced as life.

A Living Trust

When Arun spoke of Avani, he was not assigning a task.

He was entrusting a way of being.

Not something to complete,
but something to continue.

And so, three years later, we find ourselves not looking back, but walking forward.

“Avani Is My Heart” — In Honor of Arun Gandhi, May 2, 2026

Not in Absence, But in Presence

There is a quiet truth that has revealed itself over these three years.

Love does not end.
It deepens.

It becomes quieter,
and more certain.

It moves through hands that serve,
through voices that guide,
through hearts that remain open.

And so today, May 2, 2026, we do not gather in grief.

We stand in continuation.

Avani lives.
Ahimsa continues.
And through both,
so does he.
