Ahimsa Peace Institute welcomes you to participate in the transformational Season for Nonviolence 2024, a powerful platform dedicated to nurturing the ethos of peace and justice in our communities. Join us in commemorating the legacies of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by engaging in impactful actions and expressions of nonviolence.
What is the Season for Nonviolence?
The Season for Nonviolence, spanning 64 days from January 30 to April 4, stands as a beacon of hope, urging individuals to uphold peace. The purpose of the Season is to focus education and community action on attaining peace in the spirit of Gandhi and King. The Season teaches that every person can move the world forward in the direction of peace through daily nonviolent choices and actions. Through media attention, the Season also recognizes and celebrates those who are using nonviolence to build communities that honor the dignity and worth of every human being.
How Can You Participate?
We invite schools and youth to contribute to this noble cause by submitting essays, music, videos, poetry, graphics, or art that encapsulates the spirit of ahimsa and peacebuilding. Your submissions will not only be considered for publication on our website but also for potential inclusion in our annual calendar or future book. It’s an opportunity to amplify your voices and inspire positive change!

Ahimsa Peace Institute Season for Nonviolence 2024:
Essay Requirements
Grade Level | Word Limit | Essay |
---|---|---|
9-12 | 500-1,000 words | How can empathy and understanding pave the way for a more peaceful society? |
6-8 | 300-700 words | Describe a real-life situation where nonviolent communication resolved a conflict. How did it impact the individuals involved? |
3-5 | 250-500 words | Share a story about a time when kindness made a significant difference in solving a problem without hurting others. |
K-2 | 50-100 words accompanied by a drawing. Drawings may not exceed 11″x17″ in size. | Show a time when you helped someone without using any words. Draw and write about it. |
- Essays must be submitted by April 4, 2024.
- Schools can submit up to two (2) essays in each grade level.
- Only one entry per student is allowed.
Poetry Requirements

6-8 | 10-20 lines | Compose a poem illustrating the importance of standing up against injustice peacefully. |

K-2 | 4-8 lines | Craft a poem about the joy of sharing and helping others without using words. |
- Poems must be submitted by April 4, 2024.
- Schools can submit up to two (2) poems in each grade level.
- Only one entry per student is allowed.
Video Submission Requirements

3-5 | Up to 1.5 minutes | Make a video showcasing ways children can promote peace and harmony in their communities through small acts of kindness. |
K-2 | Up to 1 minute | Create a video story about friendship and cooperation without using any words. |
- Videos must be submitted by April 4, 2024.
- Schools can submit up to two (2) videos in each grade level.
- Only one entry per student is allowed.
Artwork Submission Requirements
