GoPhil Helps AVANI & Rescued Child Laborers

Lydia Dean GoPhilanthropic AVANI

In September of 2010, GoPhilanthropic visited its partners – AVANI school in Kolhpur, India who provide shelter and education for 36 children who have been rescued from a life of forced child labor.

All of the children now attend school and thanks to the dedication of AVANI Director Anuradha Bhosale and others on her team, the children are thriving and exploring all of life’s possibilities beyond labor. GoPhilanthropic is thrilled to have been able to send all of the children to the dentist for MUCH needed work as well as launching a daily snack program at the school. Reports from the caretakers at the school in Kolhapur reveal that a simple introduction of extra calories in the afternoon children has greatly increased their ability to concentrate on their work in the afternoons.

The children at AVANI are awaiting a new school that is currently being planned and funded through the Gandhi Worldwide Education Institute. GoPhilanthropic and GWEI have partnered in raising awareness for and supporting children involved in child labor.
